We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all advice. Every dog is different, and we’re happy to work with you to find the best time to neuter.
Our general recommendations:
For most dogs, we suggest neutering or spaying between 12–18 months.
Larger breeds often benefit from waiting closer to 18 months, to allow for full physical and hormonal development.
We’re always happy to chat and support you in making the right decision for your dog.
For bitches in season:
If your female dog comes into season, she’ll need a break from daycare.
We ask that she stays home for 10 days after her final day of bleeding.
Your booking slot is still held during this time.
Unneutered dogs at daycare:
We require a minimum of 4 days per week attendance for unneutered dogs to support consistency and minimise overstimulation.
If your dog is not neutered and showing disruptive or hormonally-driven behaviours, we may advise a pause or discuss a neutering timeline with you.
If you choose not to neuter your dog at all, we’ll always assess suitability on an individual basis.
We know this is a personal decision – we’re here to help, not to pressure.
At Duncan's Dog Co, we believe that a little rain shouldn't dampen a dog's spirit. Even when it rains, the dogs still get to enjoy their woodland adventures safely. Our team ensures that all activities are conducted in a manner that keeps the dogs comfortable and engaged. For added convenience, we have indoor spaces where the dogs can play and exercise without interruption. After their adventures, we make sure that each dog is cleaned and wiped down thoroughly before being returned home, ensuring they are dry and cosy.
To help dogs settle, stay socialised, and integrate with the pack, we require a minimum of 4 days per week attendance. This helps reduce separation anxiety and build familiarity with our team and routines.
Exceptions may be made in rare circumstances, so please get in touch if you need to discuss your dog’s situation.
At Duncan’s Dog Co, we’re not a big anonymous operation — we’re a tight-knit team of dog lovers who treat every pup like one of our own.
Consistency is key
The same people who collect your dog in the morning are the ones who look after them all day.
We don’t separate roles — our staff build relationships with the dogs, from the moment they step out of the house to the moment they’re safely home again.
This gives your dog a consistent, reassuring routine, and helps us spot changes in mood, behaviour, or health quickly.
Family Run Ethos
We’re a family-run business, not a franchise or a chain. Every team member is trained, trusted, and part of the wider DDC family.
